Barany, Robert

1876 - Robert Bárány was born 22nd of April in Vienna Austria.

1900 - Attended and graduated in medical school at Vienna University.

1909 - Became assistant at the ear clinic of the University of Vienna.

         - He became a lecturer on otological medicine.

1914 - Awarded as Nobel Prize winner for Physiology or Medicine for his work on the physiology and pathology of the vestibular (balancing) apparatus of the inner ear.

          - Bárány was a prisoner of war when the Nobel Prize was awarded to him that year.

1915 - Served with the Austrian army during World War I as a civilian surgeon and was captured by the Russian Army.

1916 - Released in following diplomatic negotiations with Russia conducted by Prince Carl of Sweden and the Red Cross.

         - He was then able to attend the Nobel Prize awards ceremony, where he was awarded his prize.

1917 - Bárány taught at Uppsala University, where he was head of the ear, nose, and throat clinic.

1936 - Robert Bárány died 8th of April in Uppsala, Sweden.
