Baranov, Alexander Andreyevich
1746 - Alexandr Andreevich Baranov was born in Kargopol, in the Arkhangelsk province of Russia.
1761 - He became a successful merchant in Irkutsk, Siberia.
He became a successful trader there and established and managed trading posts in the Kodiak Island region.
1790-1818 - Served as 1st Russian Governor of Alaska.
1799-1818 - Became chief manager for the influential Russian-American Company.
1819 - Baranov became very ill on the journey and died in the settlement of Batavia, in Java.
