1825 - Born on the 1st of May in Lausen, Switzerland.

 

Studied at the University of Karlsruhe and the University of Berlin

 

1849 - Completed his Ph.D. from the University of Basel in with a dissertation on the cycloid

 

1868 - He married Christine Pauline Rinck.

 

1885 - His major contribution was the empirical formula for the spectral lines of the hydrogen atom.

 

Balmer's formula computed the wavelength as follows:n = 2, h = 3.6546×10-7 m, and m = 3, 4, 5, 6, and so forth.

 

1898 - Johann Balmer died on 12th of May in Basel.

 

He remembered for his work on spectral series and his formula for the wavelengths of the spectral lines of the hydrogen atom
