Baker, James Addison III (Jim)
1930 - Born on the 28th of April in Houston, Texas.
1957 - Received his J.D in University of Texas School of Law.
1970 - Switched to the Republican Party and managed George H. W. Bush's unsuccessful Senate campaign.
1975 - Served as Undersecretary of Commerce under President Gerald Ford.
1978 - Ran an unsuccessful race to become State Attorney General of Texas.
1981 - Baker was named White House Chief of Staff by President Reagan.
1985 - Appointed Secretary of the Treasury.
1989 - Bush appointed Baker Secretary of State.
1991 - Awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
1992-1993 - He was named Bush's Chief of Staff.
1995 - Wrote memoir "The Politics of Diplomacy: Revolution, War and Peace, 1989-1992".
1997 - Became the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Western Sahara.
2000 - Served as chief legal advisor for George W. Bush during the election.
2003 - Drafted by the President to assist in the operations of the US-led occupation of Iraq.
2004 - Resigned from this position, frustrated over the lack of progress.
He is the senior partner at the law firm of Baker Botts and senior counsel to the Carlyle Group.
