1823 - Born on the 3rd of February in Reading, Pennsylvania.
1840 - He was graduated at Dickinson College.
1842 - Spencer followed a course at the College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York.
1845 - Became professor of natural sciences in Dickinson College.
1950 - Appointed assistant secretary of the Smithsonian Institution.
1857 - Published "Catalogue of North American Mammals".
1858 - Published the "Catalogue of North American Birds".
1871 - United States commissioner of fish and fisheries.
1874-1884 - He was co-author of A History of North American Birds.
1878 - Baird succeeded to the full secretary ship.
1887 - Spencer Fullerton Baird died 19th of August at the great marine biological laboratory at Woods Hole, Massachusetts.
Baird's sandpiper and Baird's sparrow are named in his honour.
