Babangida, Ibrahim Badamosi(also Ibrahim Gbadamosi Babangida)
1941 - Ibrahim Babangida hails from the Gwari ethnic group and was born in Minna in Niger State.
1962 - Joined the Nigerian Army's officer corps.
1976-1979 - Served in an administrative capacity under the military government of Olusegun Obasanjo.
1962-1983 - Started his promtion as a Second Lieutenant then he bacame Lieutenant in 1966, and in 1968 as a Captain and hit the Major position in 1970 few month later he begun to be a Lieutenant Colonel. And he reach his top rank in 1983 when he became Major General.
1964-1973 - Studied at the Indian military School, in 1966 studied in Royal Armoured Center in August 1972 to June 1973 took Armoured Officer course at Armored School.
1977 - Advance Armoured Officer course in Command and Staff College, jaji in Jan 1977 to July the same year.
1980 - Policy and strategic studies course NIPS Kuru, and (Senior International Defence Management Course, Naval Post graduate school, U.S).
1986 - Issued a referendum to garner support for austerity measures suggested by the IMF and the World Bank, and subsequently launched his "Structural Adjustment Program" (SAP).
1990 - Babangida's government was almost toppled by a coup attempt led by Major Gideon Orkar.
1993 - The NDSC issued an ultimatum to the NDSC to join an interim government or face yet another round of elections.
- Announced that the interim government would be inaugurated on 27th of August .
- On August 26, amidst a new round of strikes and protests that had brought all economic activity in the country to a halt, Babangida declared that he was stepping down from the presidency.
2006 - Babangida announced that he would run for president in Nigeria's 2007 national elections.
