1820 - Born on the 17th of September in Valence, Drome, France.
1844 - After a good education and legal training, he wrote a play in two acts and in verse, La Ciguë , which was refused at the Théâtre Français, but produced with as considerable success at the Odéon.
1857 - The Académie française had long before, on March, elected him to be one of its members.
1862 - He produced plays such as Le Fils de Giboyer; which was regarded as an attack on the clerical party in France, and was surely brought out by the direct intervention of the emperor.
1876-1879 - His last two dramas, Madame Caverlet and Les Fourchambault, are problem plays.
1889 - Died on the 25th of October in his house in Croissy-sur-Seine.
