1980 – Atwater’s aggressive tactics were evident, when he was a consultant for Republican candidate Floyd Spence in his campaign for Congress against Democratic nominee Tom Turnipseed.

1981 – As a member of the Reagan administration, Atwater gave an anonymous interview to historian Alexander P. Lamis.

1988 – Atwater’s most noted campaign was the presidential election.

1989 – Chairman of Republican National Committee.

1990 – Atwater recorded an album with King and others on Curb Records in entitled "Red Hot & Blue

         – As chairman was short, he was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor.

1991 – Died on the 29th of March.
