1955 - Born on the 6th of January.

1976 - He continued with an MSc at Queens College, Oxford, first achieving notice at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

1978 - He was offered his own television series by ITV.

1983 - He also co-wrote with Richard Curtis.

1988 - Atkinson's other famous creation, the hapless Mr. Bean, first appeared in a half-hour special for Thames Television.

         - Atkinson appeared at the Just for Laughs comedy festival in Montreal.

1989 - He appeared in former Not the Nine O'Clock News co-star Mel Smith's directorial debut The Tall Guy.

1990 - Atkinson married Sunetra Sastry, having met her professionally on the set of Blackadder.

1994 - Atkinson, with his turn as a verbally bumbling vicar, gained further recognition in the hit Four Weddings and a Funeral.

1997 - His television character Mr. Bean debuted on the big screen with Bean to international success.

2001 - Atkinson continued to appear in supporting roles in successful comedies, including Rat Race, Scooby-Doo, and Love Actually.

2003 - He has also starred in the James Bond parody Johnny English.
