1951 – Atkins graduated from the University of Michigan.

1955 – Received a medical degree from Cornell Medical College , after which he specialized in cardiology and complementary medicine.

1972 – Wrote "Dr. Atkins’ Diet Revolution".

2000 – Atkins started to develop a heart condition, cardiomyopathy, which he claimed was unrelated to his diet.

2002 – On the 18th of April, Atkins suffered a cardiac arrest. He made a recovery and returned to work.

2003 – On the 8th of April, Atkins slipped on ice and fell in front of his medical office in New York City and sustained major head injuries that put him in a coma.

         – Died on the 17th of April.

2005 – On the 31st of July, Atkins Nutritionals the company that Dr. Atkins founded, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in New York.
