1874 - Born on April 14th at Kensington Palace in London as  Alexander Augustus Frederick William Alfred George Cambridge. British nobility, Prince of Teck, Earl of Athlone.

1904 - Married to his second cousin, Princess Alice of Albany, a granddaughter of Queen Victoria, on February 10th.

1914 - He was appointed Governor General of Canada, but when World War I broke out, he convinced his brother-in-law King George V to release him to serve in the military.

         - Alexander renounced his Germanic titles along with the rest of the royal family.

         - He was then created 1st Earl of Athlone and Viscount Trematon.

1924 - He succeeded his cousin, Prince Arthur of Connaught, as Governor General of South Africa.

1940 - Became the 16th Governor General of Canada on June 21st.

1957 - Died on January 16th at the age of 82, the earldom of Athlone became extinct.
