1920 - Born on October 19th in Roha, near Mumbai, India. Dadaji, the founder of the Swadhyay Movement (Parivar). - He triggered off a socio-economic revolution of sorts with this Swadhyaya movement—which continues to carry his good work forward. - He became founder and leader of the Bhagavad Gita-based self-study known as swadhyaya, a movement that encourages the recognition of God within all. 1954 - Dada attended the Second World Religion Congress, held at Shimzu City, Japan. 1956 - Dada founded a school of philosophy, “Tattva Jnana Vidhyapith". 1964 - Pope Paul VI visited India, and spoke with Dada about philosophy. 1980 - Dada's Swadhyay philosophy had made its way to the United States. - Dada's philosophy is simple to understand. He believes “we must constantly address divine presence as it resides in us and let it guide our actions. Let the heart prevail and the mind understand”. Through devotion to God, anybody can achieve happiness. Swadhyay groups across the country follow Dada's philosophy. 1988 - Won the Mahatma Gandhi Prize. 1995 - On March 19th, more than one million devotees gathered in Rajkot in the Indian state of Gujarat to listen to the Reverend Pandurang Shastri Athavale. 1996 - Won the Magsaysay Award for community leadership. 1997 - Recipient of the Templeton Prize for Progress in Religion. 2003 - Died on October 25th.
