Astor, William Vincent
1891 - Born on November 15th in New York, New York. American businessman, heir, and philanthropist.
1912 - While a student at Harvard University, his father died in the Titanic shipwreck and Vincent inherited a $75 million estate at age 20.
1933-1937 - He was one of the publishers of Today, launched and merged with Martyn's News-Week as Newsweek (now part of the Washington Post group).
1950 - With his third wife, Brooke Astor, he founded the philanthropic Vincent Astor Foundation, designed to benefit the residents of New York City.
1959 - Died on February 3rd.
