1940 – Born on the 20th of September in Iizuka, Fukuoka, Japan.
1966 – He joined his father’s company.
1973-1979 – Served as president of the Aso Mining Company.
1976 – He was also a member of the Japanese shooting team at the 76′ Summer Olympics in Montreal.
1978 – President of the Japan Junior Chamber.
1979 – He was elected as a member of the House of Representatives in October, and has since been re-elected eight times.
1988 – He became Parliamentary Vice Minister for Education.
2001 – As economics minister he was quoted as saying he wanted to make Japan a country where "rich Jews" would like to live.
2003 – He joined the Cabinet of Junichiro Koizumi in 03′ as Minister of Internal Affairs, Posts and Communications.
2005 – He became Minister for Foreign Affairs.
2006 – He was one of the final candidates to replace Koizumi as prime minister, but lost the internal party election to Shinzo Abe by a wide margin.
2007 – He established the International Manga prize for non-Japanese Mangaka.
