Ashford, Emmett Littleton
1914 - Born in Los Angeles, California on the 23rd of November.
1951 - On the 20th of February, he became an umpire in the Southwestern International League, the first black professional umpire.
1961 - He went on to umpire in the Pacific Coast League for many years before being hired by the American League.
1966 - On the 1st of April, he became the first black Major League umpire.
1967 - He was an outfield umpire for the All-Star game, and later worked in the World Series.
1970 - He remained an umpire until mandatory retirement.
1980 - Died on the 1st of March at age 65 in Venice, Los Angeles.
