Ashe, Arthur Robert Jr.
1943 - Ashe was born in Richmond, Virginia on the 10th of July.
1958 - He was a player in tennis, football and basketball. He won the state championship in tennis and helped lead his team to the city championship as a speedy wide receiver in football.
1963 - He received a a tennis scholarship at UCLA and was the first African American ever selected to the US Davis Cup Team.
1965 - Won the individual category NCAA championship and was the chief contributor in UCLA's winning the team NCAA tennis championship under the same year.
1966 - Became a Professional Tennis Player at the age of twenty-three. He joined the United States Army and become a second lieutenant.
1968 - He won the united states Open and help the United States Davis Cup team to victory.
1970 - He won the Australian Open making it his second Grand Slam Title.
1975 - He won the Wimbledon after defeating Jimmy Connors in the final.
1977 - Married Jeanne Moutoussamy on the 20th of February.
1979 - He undergo his first heart surgery.
1980 - He retired from the court due to heart problems.
1981 - He wrote articles for the Time Magazine, a commentator for ABC Sports and founded the National Junior Tennis League. He was chosen to be the captain of the US Davis Cup team.
1983 - After experiencing heart problems, he underwent a second heart surgery.
1985 - Ashe was elected to the Tennis Hall of Fame.
1988 - Contracted HIV during the blood transfusions he had received during one of his two heart surgeries.
1992 - His illness was known by the public. Founded the Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health and was named Sportsman of the Year by Sports Illustrated magazine.
1993 - He died on the 6th of February.
