1907 – Born in Croydon on the 22nd of December.

1929-1931 – She first gained notoriety playing Naemi in Jew Suss and Desdemona opposite Paul Robeson’s Othello.

1934 – True stardom came when she played Juliet in a legendary production of Romeo and Juliet at the New Theatre in which Laurence Olivier and John Gielgud alternated in the roles of Romeo and Mercutio.

1937 – She appeared in a thirty-minute excerpt of Twelfth Night on the BBC Television Service, alongside Greer Garson, the first known instance of a Shakespeare play to be performed on television.

1951 – Peggy Ashcroft was appointed Commander of the British Empire.

1953 – Antony and Cleopatra.

1957 – As You Like It.

1960 – The Taming of the Shrew.

1984 – She won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.

         – Peggy Ashcroft appear in the role of Barbie Batchelor on the internationally acclaimed British mini-series The Jewel in the Crown, for which she won a BAFTA Best Television Actress award.

1991 – Died on the 14th of June in London, following a stroke, aged 83.
