1921 - Born on the 23rd of August.

1940 - He graduated from Townsend Harris High School and then earned a Bachelor's degree from the City College of New York.

1941 - At Columbia University, he received a Master's degree.

1946-1949 - He spent his time partly as a graduate student at Columbia and partly as a research associate at the Cowles Commission for Research in Economics at the University of Chicago.

1951 - He earned his Ph.D. from Columbia.

1972 - Nobel Prize in Economics.

1973 - President of American Economic Association.

1983 - Won the Nobel prize for this work.

2004 - He was one of the recipients of the National Medal of Science.
