1923 – He made his first recordings, while playing second cornet in Oliver’s band.

1925 – He began recording under his own name with his famous music "Hot Five","Potato Head Blues" and "West End Blues".

1964 – He was top of the Bill Board chart with his music "Hello Dolly".

1968 – His highly sentimental pop song "What A Wonderful World" topped the British charts.

1971 – On the 6th of July, he died of a heart attack at the age of 69.
