Armour, Philip Danforth
1832 - Born on the 16th of May in Stockbridge, New York.
1852 - He walked across the country to mine the gold fields of California, and earned US$ several thousand dollars there.
1883 - In order to get his meat products to market he followed the lead of rival Gustavus Swift when he established the Armour Refrigerator Line.
1893 - He donated $1 million to found the Armour Institute of Technology (a privately endowed coeducational college).
1898-1899 - The company's reputation was tarnished by the scandal in which it was charged with selling tainted beef.
1900 - He endeavor soon became the largest private refrigerator car fleet in the U.S.
1901 - Died on the 6th of January of pneumonia at his Chicago home.
