Arbenz Guzman, Jacobo
1913 - Born on September 14th in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala. Colonel Jacobo Arbenz Guzman, a hero of the revolution, soldier, politician, and president of Guatemala whose nationalistic economic and social reforms alienated conservative landowners, conservative elements in the army, and the U.S. government and led to his overthrow.
1935-1937 - He served the Guatemalan Army.
1939 - Married to Maria Cristina Vilanova.
1951-1954 - He was elected president of Guatemala with the largest majority in Guatemalan history.
- CIA planes bombed the capital and US trained and armed troops poured over the border. Arbenz resigned. Guatermala's ten-year "democratic spring" came to an abrupt end.
1971 - Died on January 27th in Mexico City, Mexico.
