1921 - Born on June 17th in Humphreys County, Tennessee. American naval officer and politician.
1942 - Graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis.
1943 - Married to Yvonne Etzel on June 10th.
1957 - He became commanding officer of the USS Nautilus, the first atomics submarine.
- Captain Anderson took command of the Nautilus, which shared the name of the submarine in the celebrated Jules Verne novel "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea".
1958 - He navigated the Nautilus underneath the North Pole, the first vessel to do so.
1959 - Wrote his memoir Nautilus 90 North with Clay Blair, Jr.
1962 - Anderson was an unsuccessful candidate for Governor of Tennessee.
1964 - Captain Anderson was elected to the U.S. Congress and represented Tennessee’s 6th District as a Democrat for four terms.
1973 - Chairman of the Member of the Board of Digital Management Corporation.
1980 - He entered the business world and co-founded the Public Office Corporation, Washington, D.C.

2007 - Died of kidney failure on February 25th in Leesburg, Virginia.
