1750 – He was born on the 7th day of January this year at Carnwath, Lanark shire.
1778 - He studied first divinity and then medicine at the University of Edinburgh, and subsequently, after some experience as a surgeon, took his M.D. at the University of St Andrews in this year.
1792 - For several years his attention was occupied with his edition of The Works of the British Poets, with Prefaces Biographical and Critical in this year until 1807.
1796 – He also wrote The Miscellaneous Works of Tobias Smollett, M.D., with Memoirs of his Life and Writings.
1815 – He wrote the Life of Samuel Johnson, LL.D., with Critical Observations on his Works.
1820 - The Works of John Moore, M.D., with Memoirs of his Life and Writings.
1830 – He died on the 20th day of February this year.
