1908 - Born on the 14th of December in  Chicago, Illinois .

 

1922 - He began working in Vaudeville, a multi act theater located in North America.

 

1924 - He was working in a speakeasy (establishment that was used for selling and drinking

             alcoholic beverage).

 

1930 - He hosted a radio show and also wrote the song "Why Oh Why Did I Ever Leave Wyoming".

 

1942 - Married Kay Patrick, 2 children

 

1947 - He was performing on three daily radio shows.

 

1948 - He appeared on the radio  show "Stop Me If You've Heard This One" (a comedy radio series).

 

1948-1950 - He began hosting his own television show "The Morey Amsterdam Show" (a television sitcom)

 

1952-1960 - Appreaed many TV shows, such as - The Moor's Revenge, The Phil Silvers Show, Dragnet,

Schlitz Playhouse of Stars, December Bride, The Gale Storm Show, It Came from Outer Space and Gunsmoke.

 

1960 - his livelihood was sorely threatened when he suffered a head injury while appearing in the

film Murder Inc. for three tension-filled weeks, he completely forgot every one of the thousands of jokes he'd filed away in his memory banks. Happily, he recovered.

 

1961 - he was gainfully employed as Buddy Sorrell on the long-running TV sitcom The Dick Van Dyke Show.

Amsterdam wrote lyrics for the show's theme song that were never performed on the air but were performed by Dick Van Dyke in concert.

 

1962 - Mister Magoo's Christmas Carol, he did the voice of James Brady, in the movie cartoon.

 

1966 - The Dick Van Dyke Show series folded.

 

1966-1995 - Amsterdam continued to play nightclub dates and make TV guest-star appearances on game shows, TV dramas and sitcoms.

 

1996 - He appeared as panelist on "The Hollywood Square" (American television comedy and game show).          - On the 27th of October , he died of a heart attack.

 

Morey Was an accomplished cellist, included his cello in his comedy routines.
