1933 - Born on March 1st in Italy. After immigrating to the United States, August and Elizabeth Ameche moved their family back to Italy.
1949 - He entered a light heavyweight Golden Gloves novice championship.
1951 - Arrived at the University of Wisconsin-Madison to play football.
1954 - A hard-running fullback, he won the Heisman Trophy as a senior at the University of Wisconsin.
1955 - He was an NFL Rookie of the Year.
1958 - He was best remembered for scoring the touchdown that gave the Colts the victory over the New York Giants in the first overtime game in NFL Championship history on December 28th.
1960 - His career was prematurely interrupted by an Achilles' tendon injury, sustained while blocking the Detroit Lions' Alex Karras.
1988 - Died from complications of heart surgery on August 8th.
