1847 - John Peter Altgeld was born in the German village of Nieder Selters on the 30th of December.
1850 - He was the first Democratic governor of Illinois.
1872 - He was admitted to the bar.
1874 - He served as city attorney of Savannah, Missouri and was elected as county prosecutor.
1877 - He married to Emma Ford in Richland, Ohio.
1884 - He made an unsuccessful bid for Congress.
1886-1891 - He was elected to a Cook County Superior Court judgeship and served on the bench.
1891 - He resigned his judgeship to concentrate on his real estate and construction ventures.
1893 - He was propelled onto the national scene pardoning the three living Haymarket bombers on the 26th of.
1893-1897 - He served as the governor of the U.S. State of Illinois. He was defeated for the re-election by John R. Tanner. He was the head of the largest pro-silver contingent at the Democratic National Convention.
1899 - He ran for Mayor of Chicago as the candidate of the Municipal Ownership Party.
1902 - He died of cerebral hemorrhage on the 12th of March.
