1897 – Born on the 11th of November in Montezuma, Indiana.

1915 – He was enabled to join his brother Floyd at Harvard College through the scholarships.

1919 – Finished his A.B. degree with majors in philosophyand economics.

1921 – He received his M.A. degree.

1922 – He received his Ph.D..

1924 – Returned to Harvard as an instructor in social ethics.

1925 – Married Ada Lufkin Gould.

1937 – Associate Professor of Psychology.


         – Published his first major book entitled Personality: A Psychological Interpretation.


         – He was the editor of the Journal of Abnormal and Social Psychology.

1939 – Elected as president of the American Psychological Association.

1942 – Became a full professor of psychology.

1958 – Awarded an honorary L.H.D. degree by Boston University.

1961 – Published a major revision of his work entitled Pattern and Growth in Personality.

1963 – Awarded the Gold Medal of the American Psychological Foundation.

1964 – He received the Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award.

1967 – He died 9th of October due to lung cancer in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
