1973-1974 - Worked as an editorial staff for the children's magazine Mampato.

 

1975 - Went in exile and lived at Venezuela. She worked for the Caracas newspaper El Nacional.

 

1982 - Wrote the book entitled The House of the Spirits.

 

1988 - Married Willie Gordon.

 

2003 - She was able to obtain her US citizenship.

 

2006 - She was invited to be one of the eight flag bearers at the Opening Ceremony of the Winter Olympics.
