1911 - Allen was born in Aston, Birmingham on February 23, 1911.

 

1932 - Attended King Edward's Grammar School and graduated from the University of Birmingham.

 

1938 - Wrote the novel entitled Innocence is Drowned.

 

1939 - Wrote the novel entitled Blind man's ditch.

 

1940 - Wrote the novel entitled Living Space.

 

1946 - Wrote the two novels entitled The Black Country and Rogue Elephant.

 

1954 - Wrote the classic study entitled The English Novel.

 

1967 - Became Professor of English Studies at the University of Ulster.

 

1981 - Wrote his autobiography entitled As I Walked Down New Grub Street.

 

1995 - Died in London on February 28, 1995.
