1911 – Allen was born in Aston, Birmingham on February 23, 1911.

1932 – Attended King Edward’s Grammar School and graduated from the University of Birmingham.

1938 – Wrote the novel entitled Innocence is Drowned.

1939 – Wrote the novel entitled Blind man’s ditch.

1940 – Wrote the novel entitled Living Space.

1946 – Wrote the two novels entitled The Black Country and Rogue Elephant.

1954 – Wrote the classic study entitled The English Novel.

1967 – Became Professor of English Studies at the University of Ulster.

1981 – Wrote his autobiography entitled As I Walked Down New Grub Street.

1995 – Died in London on February 28, 1995.
