
1802 – Horatio Allen was born in Schenectady, New York on May 10, 1802.
1823 – He graduated from Columbia and was appointed the Delaware and Hudson Canal Company as chief engineer.
1828 – He was sent to England to buy locomotives for the canal company’s projected railway.
1829 – He assembled the first steam locomotive to run in America.
1829-1834 – He was the chief engineer of the South Carolina Canal and Rail Road Company.
1838-1842 – He was principal assistant engineer of the croton aqueduct.
1872-1873 – He was the president of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
1889 – He died on December 31, 1889.
