1930 - Alferov was born in Vitebsk, Belarus, USSR on the 15th of March.
1952 - He graduated from the Department of Electronics of V.I. Ulyanov Electrotechnical Institute in Leningrad.
1953 - He was a staff member of the Physico-Technical Institute.
1953-1964 - He became a Junior Researcher.
1961 - He earned scientific degree: a candidate of sciences in technology in Ioffe Institute.
1962 - He worked in the area of III-V semiconductor heterostructures.
1964-1967 - He became a Senior Researcher.
1967-1987 - He became the head of the laboratory.
1970 - He earned scientific degree: a doctor of sciences in physics and mathematics in Ioffe Institute.
1972 - He was elected a corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences and received the Lenin Prize.
1973 - He took over the chair of optoelectronics at the St. Petersburg State Electrotechnical University.
1979 - He was elected an Academy's full member.
1984 - He was awarded the USSR State Prize.
1987 - He was a director in the Physico-Technical Institute.
1988 - Alferov was appointed to the Dean of the Faculty of Physics and Technology at the St. Petersburg Technical University.
1989 - He became a Vice-President of the USSR Academy of Sciences.
1999 - He was awarded the Demidov Prize.
2000 - Received the Novel Prize in Physics.
2001 - Received the Kyoto Prize.
