1930 – Alferov was born in Vitebsk, Belarus, USSR on the 15th of March.


1952 – He graduated from the Department of Electronics of V.I. Ulyanov Electrotechnical Institute in Leningrad.


1953 – He was a staff member of the Physico-Technical Institute.


1953-1964 – He became a Junior Researcher.


1961 – He earned scientific degree: a candidate of sciences in technology in Ioffe Institute.


1962 – He worked in the area of III-V semiconductor heterostructures.


1964-1967 – He became a Senior Researcher.


1967-1987 – He became the head of the laboratory.


1970 – He earned scientific degree: a doctor of sciences in physics and mathematics in Ioffe Institute.


1972 – He was elected a corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences and received the Lenin Prize.


1973 – He took over the chair of optoelectronics at the St. Petersburg State Electrotechnical University.


1979 – He was elected an Academy’s full member.


1984 – He was awarded the USSR State Prize.


1987 – He was a director in the Physico-Technical Institute.


1988 – Alferov was appointed to the Dean of the Faculty of Physics and Technology at the St. Petersburg Technical University.


1989 – He became a Vice-President of the USSR Academy of Sciences.


1999 – He was awarded the Demidov Prize.


2000 – Received the Novel Prize in Physics.


2001 – Received the Kyoto Prize.
