1959 - Appointed Director of the Kurchatov Institute Russia's prime nuclear research institute.
1966 - Appointed member of the Central Committee.
1968-1969 - Receive the Lenin Prize Award for two consecutive years.
1975-1986 - Became the President of the Soviet Academy of Sciences.
1994 - Died of cardiac arrest on the 4th of February.
