1936 - Born Alfonso Joseph D'Abruzzo in New York City on January 28, 1936.

 

1943 - Contracted polio at the age of seven.

 

1956 - Received his bachelor's degree from Fordham University.

 

1957 - Joined the Army Reserve of the United States and served in Korea as a gunnery officer. Married Arlene Weiss.

 

1972-1983 - He starred in M*A*S*H, a television series. He was nominated for 21 Emmy Awards from which he won five awards.

 

1989 - Portrayed Lester in the movie, Crimes and Misdemeanors.

 

1996 - Portrayed Richard Schlicting in the movie, Flirting with Disaster.

 

2004 - Became a regular cast on the NBC program The West Wing.

 

2005 - Published his first round of memoirs, Never Have Your Dog Stuffed: and Other Things I've Learned.
