1942 - Born on the 22nd of July in Setagaya, Tokyo, Japan.
1967 - 1971 - He became a reporter for the Japanese TV company TBS (Tokyo Broadcasting System), and also worked for the BBC World Service.
1989 - He was selected for cosmonaut training on 17th of August.
1990 - He was the first Japanese citizen in space.
- He became Deputy Director of Tokyo Broadcasting System in News Division, after his successful spaceflight.
- Best known for his trip to the Mir space station aboard a Russian Soyuz spacecraft.
1995 - He resigned from Tokyo Broadcasting System to pursue private interests.
