Ahidjo, Ahmadou Babatoura
1934 - Born on the 24th of August in Garoua, Cameroon.
1940 - He entered the politics of French Cameroun.
1960 - He was elected president of Cameroon when it gained independence.
- He experienced a rebellion from a group known as the Union of the Peoples of Cameroon.
1965 - He was reelected, gradually establishing the complete dominance of his own party and outlawing all others.
1970 - He created an unpopular constitution which ended the autonomy of British Cameroon and established unitary rule.
- He ruled Cameroon under a dictatorial leadership and his country became the most stable in Africa.
1982 - He resigned, ostensibly for health reasons, on the 6th of November.
1983 - He had a major feud with his successor, Paul Biya.
1984 - He had fled the country and been sentenced to death in absentia for participation in a plot against Biya.
1989 - He died on the 30th of November in Dekar, Senegal.
