1643 - Born on the 21st of August.
1646 - He suffered an illness that left him paralyzed on the left side of his body,
as well as leaving him mentally unstable at the age of three.
1653 - He became the heir-apparent to the throne of the kingdom after the death of his
eldest brother.
- He received also the crown-princely title 2nd Prince of Brazil.
1656 - He succeeded his father at the age of thirteen.
1662 - He took control of the throne and his mother was sent to a convent.
1666 - He married Marie Francoise of Nemours but this marriage would not last long.
1967 - His wife filed for annulment due to his impotency and she married Afonso's brother,
Pedro, Duke of Beja.
- He was exiled to the island of Terceira in the Azores for seven years.
1683 - He died on the 12th of September in Sintra.
