1643 – Born on the 21st of August.

1646 – He suffered an illness that left him paralyzed on the left side of his body,
           as well as leaving him mentally unstable at the age of three.

1653 – He became the heir-apparent to the throne of the kingdom after the death of his
           eldest brother.

       – He received also the crown-princely title 2nd Prince of Brazil.

1656 – He succeeded his father at the age of thirteen.

1662 – He took control of the throne and his mother was sent to a convent.

1666 – He married Marie Francoise of Nemours but this marriage would not last long.

1967 – His wife filed for annulment due to his impotency and she married Afonso’s brother,
           Pedro, Duke of Beja.

        – He was exiled to the island of Terceira in the Azores for seven years.

1683 – He died on the 12th of September in Sintra.
