1100 - Adrian IV was born in Hertfordshire, England.
1137 - Elected as abbot. His actions as abbot made way for complaints against him in Rome. It reached the attention of Pope Eugene and appointed him cardinal bishop.
1152-1154 - Went to Scandinavia as a papal legate in-charge of organizing the affairs of the archbishop of Trondheim.
1154-1159 - Upon the death of Pope Anastasius IV, he became pope on December 4, 1154. Adrian IV crowned the Emperor at Saint Peter on June 18, 1155. During his reign as pope, he issued a papal bull, Laudabiliter, making Ireland part of the English Monarch. He died on September 1, 1159.
