         - He was born in Rome, the son of a subdeacon.

615 - He was elected to the papal throne and was the first pope to use lead seals or the "bullae" on papal documents.

         - He encouraged and supported the clergy, who were impoverished in consequence of the political troubles of the time; and when his diocese was visited by a violent earthquake and leprosy he set an heroic example by his efforts to relieve the suffering.

618 - Worked hard to help his people in their troubles when Rome was rocked by an earthquake and soon after devastated by plague.

         - He died in Rome on November 8th and willed a year's stipend to each priest in Rome.
