1876 – Adenauer was born in Cologne, Germany on January 5, 1876.

1894 – Studied law and politics at the universities of Freiburg, Munich and Bonn after completing his Abitur.

1901 – Adenauer finished his studies and worked as a lawyer in Cologne.

1906 – Joined the Centre Party and was elected to a seat in Cologne’s city parliament.

1909 – Elected as Vice Mayor of Cologne.

1917-1933 – Served as Mayor of Cologne, managed to establish faithful relations with British military. Became the president of the Prussian State Council in 1922 serving for 11 years.

1937 – Adenauer was able to claim his confiscated house which the government took when he was imprisoned.

1949-1963 – Adenauer became the first Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany after World War II. He was elected Chancellor on September 16, 1949. As the chancellor, he initiated and secured the release of the last German prisoners of war, opened diplomatic relations with the USSR and other Eastern bloc nations. Adenauer was named TIME magazine’s Man of the Year in the year 1953.

1967 – Adenauer died at the age of 91 on April 19, 1967.
