1881 - Born on March 23 in Greenville, South Carolina. A Shakespearean scholar and was the first director of the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, D.C.

1900 - He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Wake Forest College.

1901 - Earned an Master of Arts degree from the same institution.

1910 - He pursued a teaching career at several institutions, notably at Cornell University, where he also edited the journal Cornell Studies in English.

1931 - Adams married Helen Banks on the 29th of January .

         - Involved with the Folger Shakespeare Library from its foundation.

1934 - He became the Library's temporary director.

1936 - Became the director of the Folger Shakespeare Library.

1946 - Died on November 10th from coronary disease.
