1947 - Born on February 15th in Worcester, Massachusetts. An American composer and conductor.
1971 - He graduated from Harvard University.
1982 - He won a number of honours, including a Guggenheim fellowship.
1987 - Composed his best known opera on topical theme, "Nixon in China" which was about the president's 1972 visit.
1991 - His composition, "The Death of Klinghoffer" was based on a 1985 terrorist hijacking and murder.
1995 - Won the Grawemeyer Award for Music Composition .
1997 - He was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
2002 - His "On the Transmigration of Souls" an orchestral and choral piece.
2003 - He won the Pulitzer Prize for music.
