 1899 - He was born on the 23rd of March in Slovenia.

1913 - He emigrated to United States, and finally settled in the Croation
            (Republic of Croatia) fishing community of San Pedro, California.

1918 - He became a naturalized citizen.

       - He worked as a heavy worker and then at a Slovenian daily newspaper.

1932 - He received an award of the Guggenheim Fellowship.

1934 - He achieved national acclaim in America with his book "The Native's Return".

1940 - He served as the editor of the magazine Common Ground.

1949 - He was a corresponding member of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts.

1951 - He died on the 4th of September.
