1937 - Born on the 24th of August in Abeokuta, Nigeria.

1993 - He was denied the opportunity to become President when the election results
        were annulled by a court during the regime of Ibrahim Babangida on the 12th of June.

        - He was the candidate of the Social Democratic Party.

        - When he declared himself the lawful president of Nigeria, he was accused of treason
          and imprisoned.

1996 - His wife, Alhaja Kudirat Abiola, was murdered during a demonstration for the release
       of her husband.

       - His daughter Hafsat Aboila later became a democracy activist and founded the Kudirat
          Initiative for Democracy in honor of her mother.

1998 - He died in captivity of a heart attack on the 7th of July.
