Abbey, Henry Eugene
1846 - Born on the 27th of June in Akron, Ohio.
1870 - He managed such prominent Broadway theatres, promoting the talents of some of the foremost American actors, as well European stars.
1876 - He married Kate Kingsley, and had two children with her.
1883 - He was the first manager of New York's Metropolitan Opera Company.
- He managed the tours of Adelina Patti and the London Gaity in America, and he introduced Sarah
Bernhardt to America.
1886 - He married again to Florence Gerard.
1890 - He opened Abbey's Theatre, one of the first theatrical managers to present expensive shows outside
of the major cities.
1891 - He resigned after a financially unsuccessful first season, but was re-hired.
1896 - He died in New York City on the 17th of October, at the age of 50.
