1894 – He was born on June 23 of this year in White Lodge Richmond, London.

 

1936 – His reign started this year. He was the second monarch of the House of Windsor. Only months into his reign, Edward forced a constitutional crisis by proposing marriage to the American divorcée Wallis Simpson. Many are against the marriage, so he voluntarily relinquished his throne.

 

1937 – After his abdication, he reverted to the style of a son of the sovereign. The Prince Edward, and was created Duke of Windsor on 8 March of this year. He served during World War II. After the war, he was never given another official appointment. He spent the remainder of his life in retirement.

 

1972 – He died on the 28th day of May this year in Paris, France.
