1873 - Born on the 7th of December at Back Creek Valley near Winchester, Virginia U.S.A. Willa Sibert Cather was Nebraska's most noted novelist.

1895 - Cather was graduated from the University of Nebraska.

1901 - She taught English in a Pittsburgh high school in Pennsylvania U.S.A.

1906 - She moved to New York and became the leading magazine editor of her day while serving as managing editor of McClure's Magazine.

1917 - Cather continued her education and received a doctorate of letters at the University of Nebraska.

1922 - She won the Pulitzer Prize for her novel, One of Ours, about a Nebraska farm boy who went off to World War I.

1925 - Her novel, A Lost Lady, was made into a silent movie.

1947 - She died on April 24th in New York.

1973 - She was honored by the United States Postal Service by putting her image on Postal Stamp.

1986 - She was inducted into the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame.
