1959 - Carlin and Jack Burns began as a comedy team when both were working for radio station KXOL in Fort Worth.
1981 - Carlin returned to the stage, releasing A Place For My Stuff, considered by many to be his best album since Class Clown, and making a triumphant return to HBO (and to his hometown) with the Carlin at Carnegie special videotaped at Carnegie Hall.
1989 - Carlin had become popular with a new generation of teens when he was cast as Rufus.
1991 - He provided the narrative voice for the American version of the children's show Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends.
1991-1993 - He played "Mr. Conductor" on the PBS children's show Shining Time Station which featured Thomas.
