1881 - Born on the 15th of November in Chicago, Illinois.

1899 - He graduated from the Armour Scientific Academy and attended the University of Michigan for one year.

1903 - He first worked for the Chicago Journal.

1904 - He moved to to the New York Evening Mail and began the famed column which would later be known

           as "The Conning Tower".

1913 - He moved his column to the New York Tribune.

1920 - He was in the U.S. Army working on the Stars and Stripes.

1921 - He went to the New York World, writing there until that paper closed.

1931 - He returned to his old paper, renamed the "New York Herald Tribune".

1937 - He went to the New York Post.

1938 - He was a panelist on the radio quiz show Information, Please! having written a trivia book with

             Harry Hansen.

1941 - He ended his column in September.

1960 - He died on the 23rd of March in New York City.
