Baudrillard, Jean
Jean Baudrillard is a cultural theorist, philosopher, political commentator, sociologist, and photographer.
1929 - Jean Baudrillard was 20th of born June in Reims, France.
1858-1966 - Studied German at the Sorbonne University in Paris and taught German in a lycée.
Worked as a translator and critic and continued to study philosophy and sociology.
1966 - Completed his Ph.D. thesis: 'Thèse de troisième cycle: Le Système des objets' ('Third cycle thesis: The system of objects') under the tutelage of Henri Lefebvre.
Studied Marxism and consumer economy from semiological viewpoint, emphasizing capitalist system's reliance on simulacra (signifiers cut off from referents)
1966-1972 - Worked as Maître Assistant (Assistant Professor) and Maître de Conférences en Sociologie (Professor).
1968-1986 - Baudrillard wrote "La Systeme des objets" 1968 (also "The System of Objects"), "La societe de consommation" 1970 (also "The Society of Consumption"), "Pour une critique de l'economie politique du signe"
1972 (also "For a Criticism of the Political Economy of the Sign"), "Le miroir de la production" 1973 (also "The Mirror of Production"), "Oublier Foucault" 1977 (also "Forget Foucault"), "Amerique" 1986 (also "America")
1972 - Finished his habilitation 'L'Autre par lui-même'. ('The Other, by oneself'.) and started teaching Sociology at the Université de Paris-X Nanterre as a professor.
1896-1990 - Baudrillard served as Directeur Scientifique (Scientific Director) at IRIS (Institut de Recherche et d'Information Socio-Économique) at the Université de Paris-IX Dauphine.
