1976 - He became a charter member of the Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago, Illinois.
1983 - He moved to New York City and appeared in the play True West.
1984 - He made his film debut in The Killing Fields.
1993 – He was nominated for an Oscar in the same category for In the Line of Fire.
2002 – His directorial debut, “The Dancer Upstairs.” was released this year to critical acclaim.
2005 - He was awarded a diploma in theatre.
2006 - He recently appeared in the cult film Art School Confidential as a pompous art professor.
